Adventures, rewards, buyables and crafted items await you, both new and familiar. You won’t want to miss all of the fun at Gnomeland Security, your headquarters for all things Tinkerfest, in Steamfont Mountains.

  • Added an in game mail to announce event.
  • Event quests now have associated map regions marked.
  • For those that have completed “Great Balls of Fire” at least five times Blantsworth Coggington III in Steamfont Mountains will offer the new quest, “If They Only Had a Brain”.
  • The quest “Friendly Competition” is now offered directly by Jon Jeffas in Steamfont Mountains and is repeatable once, per year.
  • The quest “Tinkerfest Cheer” is now being offered by Tomker, in Steamfont Mountains.
  • The quest “The Legend of the Geargobbler” is now the only quest offered by Didyma in Steamfont Mountains.
  • New rewards on returning quests.

The event is currently set to run 7/29/2011 through 8/08/2011 on the live servers.

Please assemble any feedback and bugs that you may find in this thread. Thank you, everyone!

Note that to avoid some conflicts, the Dragon Ring rebuilding event has to be disabled while Tinkerfest is being tested. The Wizard Spire rebuilding in Eastern Wastes continues.

We’re now just 1 month away from SOE’s Fan Faire convention in Las Vegas and we have some news regarding those who intend to participate in the EQ2 tournament and/or costume contest. Unlike past EQ2 tournaments, this year’s will have little to do with actual EQ2 gameplay and instead be an Aether flying race, with players being selected for earning the fastest times.

SOE Costume Contest

The ever-popular SOE Fan Faire Costume Contest will be returning this year, and it’s going to be better than ever.

We’ll be doing a few things differently this year. All contestants will need to be pre-registered at the Information Booth in the Grand Bally Room. Sign up will start on Thursday, July 7th, after 6:00 p.m. and will continue until 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 9th.

Spring Training for the EQII Fan Faire Tournament

If you’re attending Fan Faire 2011 and plan to participate in the EQII Tournament, then you’ll want to log in to Test or Test Copy server and practice on the tournament course…available for a limited time only!

This week we’ll be showing off the Great Divide Aether Race at E3 in Los Angeles, and this is your shot to do a few laps ahead of time and learn the ins and outs! The course was activated on Monday morning, June 6th, and will be available until around 11:00 PM PDT on Thursday, June 9th.

Multi-attack Not Working on Offhand Weapons

In a two different forum threads, players reported that Offhand Weapons are not multiattacking unless their timing is staggered (use a combat art to interrupt one, or use weapons with two different delays). Zoltaroth’s response:

We found what is causing this and are working on a fix. Most likely the fix will be in the next hotfix after tomorrows (ie: not tomorrow).

Battlegrounds Tokens for 2 Gold

For testing purposes, Battlegrounds Tokens were placed on the PvP Vendor for 2 gold a piece on Test Copy. Unfortunately, these cheap tokens made their way through to live and as a result, some players on Nagafen have stockpiled thousands of tokens. Some players have even transferred from other servers to Nagafen just to buy them. Olihin says this will be addressed:

This was not intended as stated and we are taking steps to resolve the issue. We appreciate the report and patience while this is resolved.

We thank those that had the restraint to NOT buy the tokens, since it was a bug that the token was there to begin with.

If you just can’t get enough of Thurgadin, City of the Coldain Dwarves in Velious, and wish you could take some of it home with you, take heart. The Thurgadin Grand Hall joins the Kromzek House as one of two new houses now on the Test and Test Copy servers.

The voluminous Thurgadin Grand Hall will make you wish indoor flying were possible, as the new house contains both the Remembrance Park and an enlarged version of the Mercantile area of the city of Thurgadin.

Entry to the Thurgadin Grand Hall is gained from the Thurgadin Exchange crafting area.

TEST COPY BUFFER

  • You can now buy a bauble from the battlegrounds test merchant that changes your citizenship from good to evil and vice versa.

  • Fixed a bug where players might not get autogrouped when backfilling a match.

TEST COPY MERCHANT

  • A Sister of War merchant has been added to Freeport North and Qeynos Harbor (next to the Scion of Discord NPCs) that sells the new PvP / Battleground armor for testing.  The merchant will provide you with enough faction and coin to purchase the armor she carries.

It is our understanding that Game Update 60 will be hitting Test and Test Copy today. Domino’s post is not a confirmation, but taken with other posts, strongly suggests it:

Most likely early afternoon (PST) but times may vary depending on a variety of factors. There will be an in-game broadcast to warn you.

LADY LUCK BUFFER (Test Copy)

  • A  few items have been added to Lady Luck.  All classes should get a full set of gear from her now.

GENERAL

  • Fixed a client crash bug that sometimes occurs on shutdown.

HOUSING

  • Exiting a house should correctly zone you to that house’s parent zone.

QUESTS

Public Quests

  • Completing the highest difficulty level of the Storm Gorge Public Quest now has a chance to grant an adornment pattern selector, instead of a random adornment.

ITEMS

  • The Gore-Imbued Bands pattern should now properly unpack.

Let’s see…

ReItemization

It seems we’ve finally made our voices heard on the problems introduced by the extreme stat consolidation with the introduction of Velious, namely that not only all dungeon-dropped (Legendary, Fabled) gear from level 1-89 has completely ineffective stats, but that even the Mastercrafted gear from 22, 32, 42, 52, 62, 72, 77, and 82 are almost nonsensical in their setups given the changes.

Multihousing

Multihousing has been on Test and Test Copy for a couple of days now and feedback has been flooding in from players who are testing it out. Zoltaroth has been slaying the housing code demons and responding quickly to the bug reports.

Prestige Houses

Those prestige houses we’ve been hearing about have been unveiled, leaving no surprises. The Qeynos Dojo from Elddar Grove makes an appearance. It’s cozy, which is real-estate lingo for TINY. Hopefully in a later update, some kind of outdoor area can be added. The Neriak Opera House is much bigger, although again there’s no outdoor area, as these prestige houses were actually produced in 2007 before houses were opened up to ‘outside’ areas. Rounding out the new Prestige houses are the Maj’dul Library which will be awfully familiar for those who have completed their Tradeskill Epic (no sign of weighty tomes or menacing djinn librarians though). We haven’t seen the Maj’dul Bottle house just yet, although we’re guessing that it’s not unlike the bottle found on the shores of the Sinking Sands.

The Everfrost Summer Home, already available to purchasers of the Destiny of Velious Collector’s Edition is a somewhat gloomy 4 room house not unlike Miragul’s infamous Menagerie. Incidentally, after initially being told otherwise, we’ve received confirmation that the 7 year veteran house Mistmoore Crag Estate is in fact a Prestige house. As to why this is an important distinction, prestige houses will have additional linking options including the placement of portals to the houses of friends and guildmates.

Low Level Itemization

Early posts on the EQ2 forums from devs indicated that previous tiers would not be reitemized, given the difficulty and time involved. We made no secret of our feelings on the EQ2 forums that “maybe this should have been considered before changing how all of the game’s stats work”.

However more recently, it has been indicated by SmokeJumper that at least some degree of fixes may be done to the old itemization. Whether this will be restricted to, say, Mastercrafted gear and a select few items, or whether a script will be applied to all old items as was done a couple of years ago is unclear.

Test and Test Copy will be brought down shortly in order to receive the new Multi-housing code which EQ2 code guru Zoltaroth has been beating on for the last several months. This is a substantial rewrite of the underlying housing code which will allow players to own up to 10 homes in different cities, jump from house to house, and also port to houses where they have been explicitly granted friend or trustee access.

Because there would be no way to reconcile the Live house data vs. the reorganized Test Copy house data, when doing a /testcopy of a character on Live to the Test Copy server, your house will not be copied over. Fortunately, vendors are being added to inexpensively buy houses just to allow testing.

Multihousing Feedback @ EQ2 Forums | Multihousing Bug Reports @ EQ2 Forums

From Zoltaroth:

Test-Copy will get the code the same time as test. However copied characters will not retain their houses from live. You will be free to purchase as many hosues as you want and play with the feature on Test-Copy though.

All of the underlying DB data has changed so there is no way for the houses to copy over when Live and Test are out of sync on the housing code. Once Live is updated the copy script will again copy houses (after some updates).

When exactly?

We are shooting to update test around 3-4pm pacific.

erm…

Some parts of the process are taking longer than anticipated. This will likely cause the update to be closer to 6pm than 4pm.

If you’ve been following Zoltaroth on Twitter, he’s posted some rather interesting and humorous tweets on the subject:

If you are designing some game or feature and it occurs to you to save some space using 32bit IDs instead of 64bit GUIDs dont, It’s a trap!

EQ2’s new housing is currently being QA’ed. I can’t wait to see what the EQ2 players do with this feature when it goes live.

Wait until you see the new GH amenity :)

Anxiously preparing to inflict housing on Test… soon.

Preparing the Test DB for housing changes. Won’t be long now.

From SmokeJumper:

WARNING!!! We’ll need to outage Test for a longer-than-normal period tomorrow afternoon (4/13/11), because this is a very large update and we need to make it during work hours so we’re here on-hand in case of any issues (we don’t expect any, but still…). /end warning We’ll get it done as soon as possible!

LATE-BREAKING NEWS: We just realize that most of you on Test probably don’t have Prestige homes, so we’ll be putting merchants in tomorrow afternoon also that will let you buy Prestige Homes and thus let you play with the system.
