From SmokeJumper on the EQ2 Forums:

I rarely, and I mean once-every-few-years, make slips when talking to the press. But I had done tons of internal presentations about it and it slipped in the heat of conversation with the journo.

But that being said, we’re not going to reveal anything else until Fan Faire where it will get its great unveiling, as planned.

However, I will say this one thing to squash the rumor. This is not introducing a “Marketplace Class” and this new class will not be sold for SC.

That’s it. That’s really all I’m going to post about this until Fan Faire. No more responses on this subject. Sorry, folks.

From SmokeJumper on the EQ2 Forums:

This has been overdue for a very long time. We’re going to work on it this week and develop a plan to release old, no longer used names. We’ll post details after we finalize them. And don’t worry, we’ll ensure everyone gets a chance to log in if they want before we release the names so they can keep names they care about.

But at last…it’s coming.

Appearing today on the StationCash Marketplace, we now have our first Premium Flying Mount. It is a Pegasus with choice of light coloration with priest/mage stats, and dark coloration with fighter/scout stats. UPDATE: Both mounts have a +5 increase to skill stats used by priests, mages, fighters, and scouts. The price is 1950SC, which is $19.50 at normal SC rate or $6.50 if you got in on the recent Triple StationCash offer.

The mounts require level 85 either tradeskill or adventure, but do not hinge upon completion of the 5-day flying mount questline.

We expect more flying mounts in the future, although Dave “SmokeJumper” Georgeson has insisted that, at least for the time being, flying mounts will remain a high-level perk.

Takebacks?

Some players wonder if we will see a wave of post-sale changes to the Pegasus as we saw with the Velium-Saddled Warhog which via 2 updates lost both Featherfall and a unique trait popular with some players of NOT pitching forward and back to match the terrain which was added to all other mounts with Game Update 59/Destiny of Velious.

UPDATE: Some players have allegedly been able to receive refunds for the purchased Warhog mounts since they have undergone changes since they were purchased.

From EverQuest2.com:

As you may have heard in Podcast #110, Dave “Smokejumper” Georgeson has been promoted to Executive Producer! After the podcast, EverQuest Community Manager Eric “Piestro” Cleaver took the opportunity to sit down with Dave and find out a little more about his new role and what this means for the EverQuest franchise.

Piestro: How about EverQuest II? Will you still be actively involved with that game?

Smokejumper: I’m still very much attached to EQII and work closely with the leads on that project. We recently promoted Emily “Domino” Taylor to become the Associate Producer on EQII, specifically to shore up the fact that I would have less time in each day to spend on EQII. So far, it’s been working very well. The team didn’t skip a beat during the transition, and in fact, things are probably better now than they were previously because we’re able to split up the tasks and I can focus more on the game’s quality and business direction.

Piestro: Is EQ going to shift directions now and be more like EQII?

Smokejumper: Absolutely not. EQ is its own game and we are unlikely to do anything stupid like trying to make it more like “XYZ Game,” regardless of which game we’re talking about. In fact, the team is already focused on the next expansion pack, so there are unlikely to be a large number of changes happening anytime soon. But we are discussing some fun stuff to begin after the expansion. More on that later…

It’s hard to believe that it’s been a week and a half since EverQuest II service was restored, and harder still that EQ2 was offline for 12 days, an exceptional operational gap for a game modeled on “sticky” customers who login daily to check in on and advance their characters.

During the downtime, EQ2Wire wanted to give the EQ2 team an opportunity to come out from behind the bushes and share a bit of what they’ve been working on and maybe break some of the tension. After all, the EQ2 team had only just taken the wraps off 3 months of hard work by unveiling Game Update 60 on the Test servers. The Shutdown arrested feedback just a scant 72 hours after testing had begun.

The Sony/SOE security breach precipitated a communications blackout that fell over the company like a cone of silence, almost completely cutting off SOE from its customers. We submitted some questions a few days after the outage and are now able to share the responses with you. Due to the timing (and lawyers), there will be few revelations, but it’s still worth a read.

Check out SmokeJumper’s responses to our questions after the jump…

EQ2Wire: What has the EQ2 team of developers, designers, and artists been working on this week?

SmokeJumper: Our development team has continued to operate as “business as usual” during the course of the outage. Some of these activities included focusing on upcoming game features and events, such as planning for the next expansion pack, upgrades to Freeport, and a whole host of new stuff which we’ll be announcing in the near future.

EQ2W: Has the EQ2 team been able to focus on continuing to work on all the content you’ve announced for the next few months such as the Freeport revamp, continuing the Velious storyline with new overland zones, public quests, dungeons, and raids?

SJ: Yup. There has essentially been no impact on our forward progress due to the downtime. Honestly, we’ve probably even had a bit more time than usual because we’re not also busy troubleshooting issues that might occur on the Live servers.

EQ2W: Do you have any idea if Game Update 60 will be postponed due to the potentially very short testing window?

SJ: Yes, it will be postponed slightly. We need the time to run GU 60 on the Test server, and since that has been out of action, we’ll be extending the deadline so that we still get that test time on the GU before release.

EQ2W: Are there any special events being planned when the servers come back online? If so, is there anything you can tell us about them?

SJ: Yes, we are definitely running events, including Double XP on everything (including Guild XP), turning on all the hotspots in the Velious zones, and also turning on all City Festivals, Aether Races, and Moonlight Enchantments. The intent is to create a fun, “welcome back” sort of atmosphere now that the servers are back up.

EQ2W: Have there been any funny moments or stories to break the tension at the office? What is morale like on the EQ2 team right now?

SJ: Morale is high…but it really grinded our teeth to have Norrath down. We couldn’t wait for things to be up and running again. Of course, we did try to lighten the mood a bit by commenting on how quiet the forums have been, and how few bugs have been reported in-game, but that only goes so far to keep us amused. We wanted the world back up just as much as you did.

In an interesting turn of events, Bronze and Silver players of EQ2X are being given 30 days of Gold access as part of SOE’s “Make Good” program. You’ll recall that Bronze is the free-to-play level of service, while Silver pay a one-time fee. Although players of both Bronze and Silver levels can and do buy various race and item unlocks, some have played EQ2 entirely for free. From SmokeJumper on the EQ2X forums:

Hi, folks,

We don’t want the Silver and Bronze members to feel like they’re being left out in the cold on this Make Good program that we’re running currently. Gold and Platinum members are already receiving 45 days of membership for free. So we’re going to do something similar now for Silver and Bronze members.

Obviously, Silver and Bronze members don’t pay for subscriptions, so extending “free time” to them is meaningless. Therefore, for the next 30 days (starting today), we’re going to treat all Silver and Bronze members as if they are Gold members instead.

Thus, Silver and Bronze members have 30 days to use the broker freely, equip and use items, use any class packs, etc.

All Silver and Bronze members have all rights and privileges of Gold members until June 17th.

Enjoy!

If you have been considering playing EQ2, I can’t think of a better offer. If only there was a way for EQ2X players to transfer their characters to the live servers.

So it turns out that some Research Assistants took a little vacation while the servers were inaccessible and did not continue dutifully researching upgrades for all players. After thoroughly investigating the issue, SmokeJumper has posted the planned solution:

Hi, folks,

When we came back online, we intended that Research would have continued to tick along while the outage occurred, so that you all would come back with a fully researched spell. However, that didn’t happen. And there’s no real way to make it automatically happen.

So…in next Tuesday’s hotfix (2011.05.24) we will grant you five (5) potions, each of which will reduce the amount of time you need to research a spell by seven days. (35 days of reduction, total.)

You can apply those potions any way that you desire.

Soon!

Here’s a screenshot of what these potions will look like:

A player asked why the Character Sheet (Persona Window) received yet another revamp with yesterday’s update. SmokeJumper had this tidbit:

[While players] didn’t ask for a new character sheet, but they *are* asking for something that will be solved after this change is in place. Here’s what got fixed with this change:

  • Your multiple homes are now listed in the “Housing” pane. (Previous to today, you could only own one house, so a list wasn’t necessary. It is now.)
  • It puts us in a much better situation to add more categories in the near future to take care of “inventory clutter” issues by creating new categories and taking those items out of your backpacks. This is a very common player request and we’ll be attacking a bunch of that soon.

From SmokeJumper on the EQ2 Forums:

Hey, folks,

We left the HEIRLOOM tag off the prestige homes. (It’ll be added to them tomorrow.)

So for today, if you were planning to buy a bunch of one type of house and then transfer it to all your different alts, please don’t do it that way. Or if you do, please realize that the HEIRLOOM tag won’t be present until tomorrow.

For today, please just realize that each character can only own one of each type of Prestige Home. If you buy more than that, you won’t be able to use them.

As of tomorrow’s hotfix, you’ll be able to transfer any duplicates to other alts, if you so desire.

What’s a Prestige Home? After the jump…

There’s a slew of Prestige Homes that we’ve already given out to folks (like the Skyblade Skiff, the Everfrost Summer Home, the Mistmoore 7-year veteran house, etc.)

There are also Prestige Homes available on the marketplace, as of today:

  • Martial arts Dojo
  • Library
  • Opera House
  • House in a bottle (Maj-dul themed)

Also, there’s the Freeblood Lair that you can get as a Freeblood.

If you’re unaware of what a Prestige Home actually is, there will be an article posted on EQ2Players later today that has all the details, but here’s a quick skinny version of the facts:

  • A Prestige Home can be linked to any number of Standard Homes, or even your Guild Hall, via portal objects.
  • You place portal objects in your Standard Homes and then can click them to warp directly to the Prestige Home.
  • You can even link to homes that your friends own, as long as they set you to Trustee level so you can place the object.
