If you have run a few Destiny of Velious dungeons (and raids), compared the loot/gear to Public Quests, and said aloud “no me comprende”, this should be a good week.

From SmokeJumper on the EQ2 Forums:

We are bumping up the power of Velious dungeon and raid items. We’re doing this to make those items more competitive when compared with Public Quest items, because instances are tougher than the PQs and deserve better rewards. This does include shard armors.

We are also going to bump up the power of hard-mode raid loot so hard modes are even more rewarding, as they require significant time and effort to beat. NOTE: This doesn’t include war runes since they are already quite powerful.

The net result of these changes makes dungeons and raids a bit more rewarding and also balances things out so that people with a full public quest set will be able to find solid item upgrades in dungeons.

These changes will occur next week sometime. If they happen sooner than that, we’ll let you know.

As revealed last night, the 12th anniversary celebration of EverQuest brings an event to EverQuest II which allows players to step into the past and remember encounters from before the Shattering.

  1. What are Chronoportals?
  • They are instances ranging from level 20-90. Each one is a nostalgic area or enemy from EQ1. Some can be be done solo, others require a small group, and still others require a full 6 person group. You and your group will be automatically mentored down when zoning in.
  1. What are the rewards?
  • Outside of the Antonica portal is a vendor selling various books, house items, and replicas of the bosses of each instance for 1 Platinum Coin each.
  • Inside of each zone, the bosses also drop rather exceptional items (for their level). Some of these items are similar in nature to Heritage Quest items.
  1. Where are these portals?
  • Cyliena over at EQ2 ZAM buckled down and has posted the information about the portals in Antonica, the Enchanted Lands, the Feerrott, Lavastorm, Guk (in the Moors of Ykesha), Sinking Sands, Steamfont, and Thundering Steppes, including hints on how to do them.

A list of rewards on the merchant are shown below:

From Olihin on the EQ2 Forums:

Greetings,

With GU60, a new battleground will be added that will allow for a 18 vs. 18 combat setting.

We are currently working on possible additions to the achievements earned while in a battleground and we would like to hear some thoughts on what you may want to see.

We will also evaluate the current achievements and look for ways to reward those that have earned or are in the process of earning them. We believe that someone that can help control all the towers while at the same time having the highest kill streak should be acknowledged, for example.

Feel free to add your ideas and we will do what we can to make your experience while fighting more enjoyable and rewarding and perhaps even humorous at times…

And addressing PvP changes which were originally planned for Velious but got pushed back:

I apologize for the lack of detail and generalization of knowledge in my previous post.

I am sure not all are aware that we postponed PvP changes until GU60 and I want to make sure that our players know that when I say that there is nothing new to report…it means that nothing has been finalized for me to bring up for discussion or testing.

We did have a meeting yesterday that helped our team narrow down some of the changes we will be trying to make in PvP.

  • Revisiting FAME and adding new features to improve its function and presentation
  • Adding new armor and adornments that compliment PvP
  • Adding a new Battleground
  • Adding a new faction instead of a new token for purchasing rewards
  • Doing more for class balance (ongoing always) based on feedback

I cannot go into detail at this time on each of the points, but I hope that this is something to look forward to in the future.

In the meantime, I will start a new thread to get some focused feedback that will help with the planed changes listed above.

Thank you again for your patience and understanding!

If you’ve been keeping your Burynai house pet (from the Kunark Pre-Order) on a steady diet of fertilizers and letting the shinies roll in, you’ve probably noticed that they have had no luck producing any of the collections from Odus (Sundered Frontier, Stonebrunt Mountains), Velious (Great Divide, Eastern Wastes), or associated dungeons. It turns out, a new Guild Hall amenity has been added for these Tier 9 zones. Here’s Gninja to explain the new Herbalist Hirelings which accept fertilizer items in exchange for collectable rewards:

.. Right now you should be able to feed the “Herbalist Hireling” any combination of the three items and get a collectible from it. The [older] Burynai will only accept items up to tier8. Combinations using the Tier9 [materials] will not work with the Burynai.

Just to go into a little bit of reasoning behind why we did it this way. Updating the Burynai every expansion took a good bit of time to update him. So instead of just continuing to update this feature only a select portion of the player base could acquire we decided to make it a permanent feature in the guildhalls and this way it would be easier to update and everyone could use it. This way it only gets updated in one place and its harder to miss one or the other when it comes time to update the functionality. We plan to keep the Herbalist Amenity up to date going forward.

You can still use the Burnyai, but it will not be updated for future tiers, according to Gninja:

The Herbalist Amenity works for all tiers from tier1 to tier9 and will be updated if/when the tier raises. The Burynai will not update past tier 8. At least that is what has been decided for now.

Adventurers in Velious will find some new Tier 9 fertilizers: large frostbitten bonestundra compost, and glacial water.
