From the EQ2 Forums:

All U.S. servers will come down for a hotfix at 7am PDT on Friday, June 3, 2011. The expected downtime is one hour. The Splitpaw server will have its hotfix at 5am London Time on Saturday, June 4, 2011. Estimated downtime is 2 hours. Here are the patch notes:

  • Casting Speed increases will work the same as before GU60.
  • Reuse and Recovery will once again apply adders *after* multipliers.

  • Negative Casting speed debuffs will now apply the correct amount of increases instead of max increase at all times.

All U.S. servers will come down for a hotfix at 7am PDT on Thursday, June 2, 2011. The expected downtime is one hour. The Splitpaw server will have its hotfix at 5am London Time on Friday, June 3, 2011. Estimated downtime is 2 hours.

Multi-attack Not Working on Offhand Weapons

In a two different forum threads, players reported that Offhand Weapons are not multiattacking unless their timing is staggered (use a combat art to interrupt one, or use weapons with two different delays). Zoltaroth’s response:

We found what is causing this and are working on a fix. Most likely the fix will be in the next hotfix after tomorrows (ie: not tomorrow).

Battlegrounds Tokens for 2 Gold

For testing purposes, Battlegrounds Tokens were placed on the PvP Vendor for 2 gold a piece on Test Copy. Unfortunately, these cheap tokens made their way through to live and as a result, some players on Nagafen have stockpiled thousands of tokens. Some players have even transferred from other servers to Nagafen just to buy them. Olihin says this will be addressed:

This was not intended as stated and we are taking steps to resolve the issue. We appreciate the report and patience while this is resolved.

We thank those that had the restraint to NOT buy the tokens, since it was a bug that the token was there to begin with.

So it turns out that some Research Assistants took a little vacation while the servers were inaccessible and did not continue dutifully researching upgrades for all players. After thoroughly investigating the issue, SmokeJumper has posted the planned solution:

Hi, folks,

When we came back online, we intended that Research would have continued to tick along while the outage occurred, so that you all would come back with a fully researched spell. However, that didn’t happen. And there’s no real way to make it automatically happen.

So…in next Tuesday’s hotfix (2011.05.24) we will grant you five (5) potions, each of which will reduce the amount of time you need to research a spell by seven days. (35 days of reduction, total.)

You can apply those potions any way that you desire.

Soon!

Here’s a screenshot of what these potions will look like:

From the EQ2 Forums:

All U.S. servers will come down for a hotfix at 7am PDT [15:00~18:00 GMT] on Thursday, April 28, 2011. The Splitpaw server will have its also have its hotfix the same day at 3pm London Time. The expected downtime for all affected servers is three hours.

Update Notes are not yet available.

For those who didn’t get to spend all their Platinum Coins from the Chronoportals event at the vendor located in Antonica, the vendor will be returning on Tuesday and sticking around for 5 days. From Amnerys:

Got a note from the team that they will be bringing the merchants back after the next hotfix and they will be available until Sunday, 4/10.

Next hotfix should be on Tuesday!

SOE is looking for your feedback on two recent changes that went in on Tuesday. From Rothgar on the EQ2 Forums:

Today’s hotfix introduced a couple of fixes and I’d be interested to hear how it has affected you.

First, we’ve made some changes to improve the performance for public quests. We still expect them to contribute towards a higher level of lag than other types of content due to the sheer number of people that participate, and we are working to make them even better. However, you should hopefully notice an improvement after today’s hotfix.

We’ve also fixed a client crash bug that may have resulted in the the “EQ2 is no longer responding” error. In many cases this may also just cause the client to shut down with no warning or error message. If you were experiencing this problem, let us know if today’s hotfix has helped or if you are still having a crash. If you are, please feel free to post the time when the crash occurred and we will take a look at it.

If you have any other feedback or comments about today’s hotfix, please feel free to post them here.

Thanks!

Client Crashes FIX!

If you have had your fill of “EverQuest2.com has stopped responding” errors, Rothgar seems to have finally gotten to the bottom of this one:

We think we’ve finally tracked down a bug that has been happening for awhile and leading to client crashes and the “EQ2 has stopped responding” problem. I can’t guarantee that this fixes EVERY problem out there, but it certainly fixes the most common crash we’ve been seeing lately.

This should get pushed out with next week’s hotfix along with some performance improvements to public quests!

EQ2 Still Runs Oracle

An inquisitive (or is it snarky) player picked up on an ikd SOE press release regarding the switch from Oracle to EnterpriseDB as the server hardware of choice to power their MMOs. It was suggested that the use of this cheaper hardware explained EQ2’s performance issues. It seems in our search for any news about new hardware upgrades, we’ll grasp at any announcement. Although FreeRealms Alas, Zoltaroth and Rothgar have nipped this in the bud:

I hate to kill all the cool conspiracy theories, but all EQ2 DBs are still Oracle. The only EQ2 DB changes we have made since launch are hardware upgrades and performance tuning. The article referenced above is likely talking about new / other projects.

Obviously we’ll provide you an update as soon as we hear when existing EQ2 worlds get moved onto brand spanking new Oracle hardware.

Chairspotting

Observant players noticed a much-requested feature had slipped into Wednesday’s update (and thus disappeared in Thursday’s fix). We’re talking about the /sitchair emote. Alas, it was not ready yet. Rothgar gives us the scoop:

Unfortunately the feature wasn’t ready yet and it snuck in on accident. We’re really sorry to have teased you and taken it away, but our ultimate plans for releasing this bit-of-awesome just aren’t complete.

Sitting in chairs is something that has been requested in every developer chat (wow, when’s the last time we had one of those?) and Fan Faire panel. Players have been asking for it a long time.

Why wasn’t it added before? I am going to go out on a limb and guess that developers initially wanted to do it the 100% “right” way which means redesigning every chair to have a center point, a ’seat height’ value, and adding a proper “sit down” animation to each race. This way everything would line up perfectly. However, players have long since been willing to accept something a lot less polished and putting the onus on us to find the right race/chair combo and positioning that looks “right”. In short: it doesn’t have to be perfect, just do a knee-bend to 50% and we’ll find chairs that we can sit in that don’t look silly. We may also get /sleeping, /faint, and other emotes as ttobey asked for up to 5 emotes players would like to see added for Roleplay purposes.

My understanding is, an emote to “sit” is what’s being added, and it will be up to players to find situations where it works. Just as players have already found ways to make existing emotes do things that no person should ever do to another. ;) Hey, it makes for interesting screenshots, right?

You may have noticed this little tidbit in today’s patch notes:

Kael Drakkel

  • Base Population in the contested dungeon now has legendary and fabled drops.

With this information you may be thinking of heading in there and trying your hand at killing some of the level 92 mobs to see what kind of trash drops you can get.  Not so fast!  Raviel on Guk apparently had the same idea and didn’t have the best of luck

Raviel@Guk wrote:

so ive been in here for about 2 hours now. wheres the trash gear we were promised?

Kander responded with this:

The hotfix said it was added, however it was not. We will try to have that corrected as soon as possible.

I am extremely disapointed myself.

Sorry about that all.

Guess we’ll have to wait a bit longer before seeing those trash drops.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!  You’ll have some time this morning to don the green, since the servers are going to be down for a while:

The US servers will come down on Thursday, March 17, 2011, at 7am PDT for a hotfix and session server maintenance.  The expected downtime is 1 hour.

Please note that due to the maintenance occurring during this period, you may not able to log in to the forums.

The UK servers are also getting a patch:

This is a notification that UK worlds will be updated at 4:00 AM London Time on 03/18/2011. The estimated downtime will be 2 hours.
