Game Update 61: The War of Zek

Appearing today on the StationCash Marketplace, we now have our first Premium Flying Mount. It is a Pegasus with choice of light coloration with priest/mage stats, and dark coloration with fighter/scout stats. UPDATE: Both mounts have a +5 increase to skill stats used by priests, mages, fighters, and scouts. The price is 1950SC, which is $19.50 at normal SC rate or $6.50 if you got in on the recent Triple StationCash offer.

The mounts require level 85 either tradeskill or adventure, but do not hinge upon completion of the 5-day flying mount questline.

We expect more flying mounts in the future, although Dave “SmokeJumper” Georgeson has insisted that, at least for the time being, flying mounts will remain a high-level perk.

Takebacks?

Some players wonder if we will see a wave of post-sale changes to the Pegasus as we saw with the Velium-Saddled Warhog which via 2 updates lost both Featherfall and a unique trait popular with some players of NOT pitching forward and back to match the terrain which was added to all other mounts with Game Update 59/Destiny of Velious.

UPDATE: Some players have allegedly been able to receive refunds for the purchased Warhog mounts since they have undergone changes since they were purchased.

Rothgar took a moment to respond to almost universal derision of the new Adornments display scheme introduced in Game Update 60:

Thanks for your feedback on the adornment changes.

However, from some of the feedback it certainly sounds like you’re not seeing everything based on an out-of-date UI. I do understand that some of you are using Default and still have issues with the changes, but before we can have a rational discussion about it, we need to make sure people are seeing the changes how they were intended and not looking at broken UI windows.

Not seeing the adornment name in the tooltip is a valid concern that we will talk about. The main reason for going to an icon-based system was to make the examine description more visual and to reduce the overall amount of space required for adornment information now that items can receive multiple adornments of the same slots. You’ll start to see items with more adornments, especially two-handers, and the examine description was getting awfully long. You’ll see we’ve done other things to try to reduce the compexity of the examine window like converting “+10 crushing, +10 piercing, +10 slashing” to just “+10 weapon skills”.

Also, with the old system, all you could see was the adornment name. Now, with the new system, when you mouse over the adornment icon, you get the full tooltip associated with that adornment, which should be an improvement by itself because you can see all the restrictions and bonuses associated with that adornment.

If the adornment icons are confusing, we can definitely look into more changes in the area. What we are trying to do is make the icons have meaning by using a variety of shapes and colors to represent different things. We want you to be able to recognize the adornment by the icon, and we can continue to add new icons to make them more visually different.

Regarding bugs, it definitely sounds like we have problem with some temporary adornments. We will look into that issue and get it fixed asap.

Thanks again for providing your feedback!

Zam.com has released some great previews of Tomorrows (scheduled) Game Update #60.

As with any large game update, we don’t know how long the servers will be down.  So what to do while waiting to explore? Why not listen to Jethal’s latest song!?

Patch Day is a parody of Rebecca Black’s “Friday” (Download the MP3 Here)

Remember those Temporary Flying Mounts available at all levels during the Destiny of Velious launch party? They’re back!! Although there’s been no announcement on the EQ2 forums, players noticed that these mounts are once again available from the Marketplace for 0 (zero) SC. Just type /marketplace , choose Mounts, then Premium, then Flying Mounts.

UPDATE: The free temporary flying mount appears to be part of this weekend’s Memorial Mania TRIPLE  StationCash event, as the EverQuest2.com Announcement has been updated with info on all the in-game items available in all SOE games.

From EverQuest2.com:

As you may have heard in Podcast #110, Dave “Smokejumper” Georgeson has been promoted to Executive Producer! After the podcast, EverQuest Community Manager Eric “Piestro” Cleaver took the opportunity to sit down with Dave and find out a little more about his new role and what this means for the EverQuest franchise.

Piestro: How about EverQuest II? Will you still be actively involved with that game?

Smokejumper: I’m still very much attached to EQII and work closely with the leads on that project. We recently promoted Emily “Domino” Taylor to become the Associate Producer on EQII, specifically to shore up the fact that I would have less time in each day to spend on EQII. So far, it’s been working very well. The team didn’t skip a beat during the transition, and in fact, things are probably better now than they were previously because we’re able to split up the tasks and I can focus more on the game’s quality and business direction.

Piestro: Is EQ going to shift directions now and be more like EQII?

Smokejumper: Absolutely not. EQ is its own game and we are unlikely to do anything stupid like trying to make it more like “XYZ Game,” regardless of which game we’re talking about. In fact, the team is already focused on the next expansion pack, so there are unlikely to be a large number of changes happening anytime soon. But we are discussing some fun stuff to begin after the expansion. More on that later…

If you firmly believe that all races and classes should be playable in all cities, today we are one step closer. Starting with Game Update 60 on May 31st, Ratonga will be tolerated welcomed in Qeynos and Kelethin.

From EverQuest2.com:

Celebrate With the Ratonga: May 31 – June 6, 2011

Word is spreading fast among the citizens of Qeynos and its allies: ratonga have begun to openly enter the cities, and the guards are no longer turning them away at the gate. With Game Update 60: The Children of War, ratonga will now be considered a neutral race and may start life in any city of Norrath.

What deal have the shrewd ratonga negotiated that would make Queen Antonia and her allies change their minds? And what niche will these newcomers carve out for themselves in their new home cities?  Only time will tell!

Visit the sages in South Qeynos and North Freeport to purchase “Out Of Necessity,” a book of ratonga history that scholars have recently unearthed. And celebrate the arrival – or departure – of your ratonga neighbours by visiting the Station Marketplace to collect a  ratonga illusion and “Seeker of Cheese” house pet, both free for a week only, starting on May 31st.  Be sure to check out the new Ratonga Heritage Armor and Underfoot Cheese Plate while you’re there!

The EQ2 special in-game item for our Fan Faire attendees has just been announced on SOE’s Facebook page.
