Today’s Update Notes for March 31, 2011 bring those Itemization changes we’ve been hearing about, a redesign of the Storm Gorge Public Quest, and the Aether Races flying event has now been folded into City Festivals, starting with Antonica. From SmokeJumper:

There will be a new track for each city until we start looping around again. Each city’s track will only be available during the City Festival and you can earn festival coins and titles when you race.

We might trot them all out at once at Tinkerfest or something, but they’ll usually be linked individually to the City Festivals now.

ZONE PROGRESSION / POPULATION

Throne of Storms: Hall of Legends (Challenge)

  • The Imperator Koskeggr fight has been adjusted, the strikemages now spawn much closer to the center of the room.

Tower of Frozen Shadow: Umbral Halls

  • Deception has lost its ability to become immune to damage.
  • VhalSera should no longer heal below a specific threshold.

Tower of Frozen Shadow: Haunt of Syl’Tor

  • Tserrina’s damage output has been slightly lowered.

Hold of Rime: The Fortress Spire

  • The Barracks doors within The Fortress Spire should open more reliably when returning to the instance.
  • The Abelbrow the Bookie should once again accept bets if returning to the zone.
  • Bouont Crushingfist should no longer attack members of his own encounter.
  • Rime Illusion items found around the docks have been made 1 charge. If you lose the illusion and need it again at any time you can return to the docks to get a new one.

Players logged in yesterday morning to find that their Ranged items, including bows and thrown weapons, had rejected their adornments. Those adornments ended up back in the Overflow slot.

Rothgar responded:

This appears to be a bug related to some item changes.  Our QA department is working on it now and we will have the items fixes asap.

 

GENERAL

  • Fixed an issue where taking damage in certain ways would cause the zone to crash.
  • Fixed an exploit where players could get infinite items in their house moving crate.

USER INTERFACE

  • Fixed a bug where click-to-cure wouldn’t work on the last member of your group.

PLAYER HOUSING

  • The houses that have been increased in physical size (with balconies, etc.) also now have a higher allowed house item count.
  • Outdoor areas added to the following housing layouts:
  • Qeynos: 2 Bayle Court, 4 Bayle Court, 5 Erollisi Lane, 8 Erollisi Lane, and 5 Karana Court

 
ITEMS

  • Fixed a bug with player-written book text not saving correctly in some situations.
  • Aviak mastery items now drop from all bird-men everywhere, not just the ones in Kingdom of Sky zones.
  • Consuming Auras will now work with the mythical spell activated.
  • “Pestilential Rain” will no longer crit nor will it be modified by potency.

PvP ITEMS

  • New PvP round shields are no longer able to be equipped in ranged.

POPULATION

  • Added flavor text to rangers in South Freeport.
  • Fixed North Qeynos inquisitor spawn.

ABILITIES / ALTERNATE ADVANCEMENT

Illusionist

  • Time Warp now has a 120 second reuse and applies to the group.

Troubador

  • Benefits from AAs that enhance Aria of Magic, Elemental Concerto, Arcane Symphony and Ballad of Warding now properly apply to group members.

Dirge

  • Benefits from AAs that enhance Dead Calm, Cacophony of Blades and Noxious Symphony should apply properly to group members.

MERCHANTS

  • Sublime 2-handed weapons have been added to the Arad merchant.
  • The Sister of War weapon merchant should now have the right pricing for the new bows.  

DARKLIGHT WOOD

  • New named creatures have been added to Darklight Wood to bring it more in line with other newbie areas.
  • Respawn times on pre-existing named have been standardized.

GREATER FAYDARK

  • New named creatures have been added to Greater Faydark to bring it more in line with other newbie areas.
  • Respawn times on pre-existing named have been standardized.

TIMOROUS DEEP

  • New named creatures have been added to Timorous Deep to bring it more in line with other newbie areas.
  • Respawn times on pre-existing named have been standardized.

UNDERFOOT DEPTHS

  • Many bosses in the Underfoot Depths now have Flawless Victory and Shorthanded Victory achievements!

DEATHTOLL

  • You no longer need to have the Marked Flameshield of Scale in order to deactivate the flame machine in the first tunnel in Deathtoll.

We’ve been hearing about some ranger love for about 3 expansions now, but at Fan Faire, we heard the first concrete info. Xelgad has elaborated on just what we can expect in an update falling between GU57 and GU58 (hopefully 4-6 weeks from now:

Greetings, Mighty Forces!

AE Auto-Attack and Flurry are indeed on the way for bows. We’re also removing the 20% damage penalty for bows, and we’re increasing the damage rating on all 81-90 bows (along with throwing weapons) by about 10%. The intent is to allow you guys to get full benefit from buffs and gear, not to make the class entirely focused on Auto-Attack.

You know how you get more auto-attack damage from your melee weapons in many cases than from your bow? These changes should fix that, unless your melee weapons are simply of much higher quality than your bow. At most, your auto-attack may jump from ~20% of your parse up to ~30% on raids, but I’d be surprised if many people end up with it higher than that.

In a recent post on the EQ2 Forums, Dave “Covic” Brown brought us news that he’s been able to bring on an apprentice to help with character design. Covic has now elaborated on what that will mean for the Destiny of Velious expansion:

I have an apprentice working on wieldables right now. His stuff is awesome. We are really trying to have every drop you get from the next expansion be new geo (geometry). There will be re-textures of the new geo, but little to no use of old geo if we can help it. He has already made items for 1h swords, 2h swords, 1h crush, 2h crush, pike, spear, shields (bucklers and round), and daggers. He still has to do some bows, and I think he has done some staffs already.

No word on crossbows or nunchucks just yet.

  • Guild status has been added for Heroic zone boss kills and raid boss kills.
  • Personal Supply Depots can no longer be “returned to owner”.
  • New Mounts are available for purchase in North Odus (Scions of the Deepwater Knights), South Odus (City of Paineel) and from horse merchants in the cities of Kelethin, Freeport, Neriak and Qeynos for 90 level guilds.  In addition, a chance to obtain a mount is available in both the group and raid portion of Erudin Palace.

BATTLEGROUNDS

  • You will now automatically unmentor when a battleground match ends.
  • Going to a battleground and returning should not change the setting of roleplay or anon on your home server.

  • Yellow adornments are now flagged heirloom.

  • The trash mobs in the zone have had their hitpoints reduced slightly. This does not include the specters in the first area although they have been made easier to pull without having to clear the first area.
