Groundhog Day is recognized every year on February 2nd, in the United States and Canada. Tradition states that if the groundhog does not see its shadow on February 2nd, it will leave its burrow, and winter will soon end.

The Sentinel was an airship originally built by the Erudin Erudites and used to haul large amounts of cargo overland. When the Void intruded into Odus, it was abandoned. The Paineel Erudites claimed the airship and re-worked it for their own purposes. It then became known as The Vigilant, as it watched over and protected the city. All three of The Vigilant instances are geared for adventurers level 90+. There are three group instances: The Vigilant: Incursion; The Vigilant: Infiltration; and The Vigilant: Rescue.

From Kander:

Kyle "Kander" Vallee built The Vigilant zones. Fortunately for us, he was able to take a little bit of time and answer some questions for us!

What sort of feel were you trying to give players with these zones?

We were looking for a flying dungeon! We wanted the zone to feel totally different than anything we have ever done! The zone artist is Urban McLafferty, and he was not afraid to try any wacky idea I came up with, along with lots of wackiness of his own. In some of the later versions people will get to see the underbelly of the ship and there are some spots that really make you feel like you are flying over the world! Also the zone itself is an obstacle, as well as its contents! There are several places you can fall out.

What’s your favourite part of The Vigilant zones?

My favorite area is the officers quarters and the refectory! There is a very cool secret door and some stuff people probably are not expecting to see in there. Oh and lots of awesome food house items and other house items that populate the zone that were made by Andres Rodriguez. He filled the zone with tons of cool stuff that we will giving out as quest rewards etc. I believe Domino also made some really cool carpenter stuff from some of the immensely different items that are on the ship!

What do you think is the coolest part of these dungeons that players absolutely must see!

Overall the coolest part of the zone is the Captain’s Deck with an spectacular orrery* that was also made by Andres. But also there is the underbridge that is made of glass, oh and the rune stairs that turn on and … Too many things, I guess? Heh.

There is some really cool stuff on it that, overall, I believe has a totally different feel then anything we have done in the past!

How do these zones progress the overall story of Odus and what happened to its inhabitants?

Well the airship and its inhabitants big part to play in current and coming events, a lot to do with things that will happen in the future that may not be clear now! I cannot give too much away but the Erudites were meddling with some very risky magic! There is a reason that the ship is being invaded!

Player run events are one of the great things about playing EQII! This weekend, January 31st and running all day, The Fellowship of the Endless Road will be holding a day long tournament. They’ll have several events throughout the day and there will be an awards ceremony in the evening with a certain dark elf playing the part of Queen Antonia. Visit them on Lucan D’Lere in their Antonica Guildhall to participate!

Love is in the air! Literally. The Swornlove siblings and the other disciples of Erollisi Marr have returned to Norrath. They’ll be reminding everyone how important love is from February 4th until February 16th.

Kiara glared about her as she paced through the Commonlands. Those blasted Swornloves were back. It wasn’t that she had anything against love… It’s just that everyone got so sickly and sappily sweet during this time of year that it made her teeth hurt.

All the same, Kiara went to greet the twins and the other disciples of Erollisi Marr and pay her respects.

She made her way towards Annalisa, intending to slip in quietly and slip away again unnoticed. It was not to be.

"Kiara! I need your help!"

"Oh, Diana… I umm… Well, see, I was just heading to say hello to Anna…"

"She can wait. I need you first. Come!"

Kiara sighed and started praying. Don’t be matchmaking. Don’t be matchmaking.

"What can I do for you, Diana?"

"Well, I need you to help me fix up some young lovers."

Kiara twitched. Of course. Matchmaking.

After she finished helping to spread love throughout Norrath, the drooping dark elf headed back to visit with Annalisa. She stopped a moment to visit with some other disciples of Erollisi. There were the usual tasks and some rather interesting new items on the markets this year. As annoying as it was to see everyone in love and making cow eyes at each other, Kiara did enjoy some aspects of the Erollisi celebrations.

While she was investigating the new items and chatting with the other disciples, Annalisa pulled Kiara to the side.

"I’ve a special errand for you, friend!"

Kiara arched an eyebrow. The Swornlove siblings tended to consider gathering flowers a special errand, ranking right up there with fetching candy. "What can I do for you, priestess?"

"I need you to venture into Nektropos Castle…"

The dark elf was intrigued. Nektropos Castle was deliciously haunted and not the usual sort of place that the Swornloves frequented. Perhaps this would be an Erollisi Day that Kiara could really appreciate!

Erollisi Day is the celebration of the goddess of love and all things related to the emotion that sets hearts to galloping!

With the return of Erollisi Day, many of your favourite activities from previous years’ celebrations are making comebacks with new rewards!

Also be sure to check out the new items on the holiday vendors as well as the new craftable items.

Since love is ever changing and growing, you’ll also find some new quests to do and stories to unfold!

  • Erollisi roses are blooming again in The Enchanted Lands. Gather them and give them to other players.
  • Love notes or message candies used in holiday tradeskill recipes can once again be obtained by killing random creatures.
  • Players in Gorowyn and Kelethin who wish to participate can speak with an NPC to be ported to The Commonlands. They can be ported back, too.
  • Adventurers can participate in the Hearts a’Flutter contest in either Antonica or Commonlands.
  • Tradeskillers will again have holiday themed items to craft.
  • Dalron is offering new rewards for his pick-up lines quest.
  • New quest reward options for several older quests.
  • New quests and rewards! (With some snazzy new Erollisi lore!)
  • New items to be crafted.
  • New items to be bought from the holiday merchants (Douglas and Steven) using Erollisi Coin.
  • Younger adventurers will find roses in the Enchanted Lands more plentiful around the safety of the docks.

On February 16th, when Sentinel’s Fate opens for the headstart, Battlegrounds will also be open for players to test their mettle against other players. It’s totally optional and folks will be able to group cross server, although not cross region. At launch it will be open to levels 80-90 with other tiers opening up in later game updates! For more information please head over to the Battlegrounds website: www.eq2battlegrounds.com

The Erudin Research Halls are the second of the Erudin dungeon series. It’s designed for levels 88+ and will give you a look into the Erudite experiments in teleportation. Unfortunately for them, their research has gained the interest of a powerful enemy that adventurers will need to battle.

From Timetravelling:

Brett "Timetravelling" Scheinert, worked on all the Erudin zones. In addition to giving all sorts of good information about his zones, he’s also been helping out with the beta tours given to press, in preparation of the NDA lifting. Many thanks to Brett for all his help.

What sort of feel were you trying to give players with this zone?

If the Erudites had a secret facility in a Godzilla movie dedicated to building Mecha-Godzilla it would be this instance. Erudin Research Halls is a mad-scientist haven. There are a number of powerful scientists controlling beams of energy in an attempt to create their deadly Deathgazer clockwork constructs under some form of control

What’s your favorite part of the zone?

The layout, actually. Stephanie Young worked to create a large central room so that players run into the final boss almost immediately. However, it is protected by a number of powerful beams of energy that make it nearly unstoppable. In order to turn them off, players must traverse the rest of the zone.

What do you think is the most impressive part of the zone?

The Erudite scientists used the gazers natural beam-firing ability to create a gazer-beam defense grid. It’s a puzzle that players must solve in order to progress without getting fried trying to run through the room.
