  • The skill cost to reach max Toughness has also increased by 50% at all tiers.

BATTLEGROUNDS

Season 2 begins!  New weapons and accessories are available via the Sisters of War.

A huge change for season 2 is the consolidation of the Ganak, Gears and Smuggler’s tokens into a single Battleground Token.   The Sisters of War have each taken the duty of exchanging your old token at a 1:1 ratio.   In addition, the items previously sold for multiple currencies are now priced to accept the new Battleground Token.

The Scions of Discord have taken over the duties from the various battleground faction representatives and will now have players complete battle specific challenges, once per day.   Players may do one kill count and one victory condition quest per day and it will grant a battleground token once completed.   Players can also start participating in these challenges starting at level 30.

Other changes with Season 2 include:

  • Gears of Klak’Anon’s Relic will now place you in combat when held.
  • Ruins of Ganak Flags will now place you in combat when held.
  • Smuggler’s Den victory condition has been reduced from 1500 to 1250 points.

OPEN PvP

  • New weapons and accessories are available via the Scions of War.

Warfields are now tiered!

Participants should visit Antonica (10-39), Enchanted Lands (40-69) or Kylong Plains (70+) to test their might!

  • Participants must now defend and attack within each Warfield.
  • Participants will need to destroy the enemy towers to win. (6 Tokens)
  • Failure to defeat the towers will result in a draw.  (3 Tokens)
  • Failure to defend the towers will result in a loss.  (2 Tokens)
  • Event will continue to spawn every two hours.

Additional Open PvP changes:

  • All zones are now set to an 8 level PvP range.
  • With the exception of a few quest hubs, all other zones will now be immunity free.   Anyone that zones in or spawns in our 8 level range areas will no longer have infinite immunity.
  • A timer of 60 seconds will count down and players will need to fight or flight from now on.
  • Starting Cities and corresponding starting zones are now aligned to their ruling faction and will “carnage” flag enemies.
  • The time and distance before you are out of combat has been doubled in PvP.

Notes are not final until the update goes live, and are therefore subject to change.

Massively is giving away fifteen 30 day gold subscriptions to EQ2X.  Check out the article at Massively.com and post a comment.  Fifteen people will be randomly chosen to receive the 30 day gold subscriptions.

The folks over at Massively.com have posted an interview with SmokeJumper.  In it, he talks about F2P, comparisons to other MMOs, the possibility of a dungeon finder, and the class balance manifesto.  Interesting read.

Dethdlr's Dungeon

I remember several years ago preparing to raid Deathtoll.

The first thing I did was ride a cloud up on Bonemire and jump off at just the right spot so I could land on the floating island containing Arbiter Selek. But before I could talk to him, I had to speak Draconic. That’s right, first I had to do the quest Speak as a Dragon that started with a raid and then sent me all over Norrath looking for items.

Once I talked to Arbiter Selek, he sent me to The Vaults of El’Arad. A few hours later he sent me to kill Sothis in Halls of Fate and then talk to the ghost dragon in The Blackscale Sepulcher. After that, he sent me to talk to Nagafen. Nagafen then sent me to kill four epic dragons: Harla Dar, Lord Vyemm, Gorenaire, and Talendor. Once I did that, I talked to Nagafen again and he gave me access to Deathtoll. Kind of.

I zoned into Deathtoll but found that there was a barrier I couldn’t get past. I went back and talked to Nagafen who sent me to the armorer in Solusek’s Eye who gave me the Marked Flameshield of Scale. If you equip this item, you’re able to turn off the barrier and make it into the rest of Deathtoll.

That was a serious accomplishment that took quite a while to pull off. Many people died multiple times just trying to get to Arbiter Selek the multiple times you have to talk to him. And what did I get for all this work? I got access for my raidforce to go see one of the most awesome looking dragons in EQ2: Tarinax! He is an incredible looking skeletal dragon protecting an enormous mound of treasure. He’s huge!

When I walked into his room for the first time and saw him sitting there, there was this feeling of awe and amazement. The day we took him down was one I will remember for a long, long time. All that work had finally paid off. It was quite fitting that his chest had more loot in it than I had seen in any other exquisite chest.

Fast forward a bit. GU 57 came out and with it, the cloud transportation has been removed. The “cloud” stations just port you to the next island. Much faster to get around, but it takes a good bit of flavor away from the zones. You no longer get much of a sense of what fits in where. As such, they moved Arbiter Selek to the lower southwest edge of the Halls of Fate island since it’s impossible to get to where he used to be (at least until we get flying mounts with Velious).

And guess what’s coming with GU 58? No more access quest line required for Deathtoll. That’s right. After GU 58, all you have to do is walk up to the entrance and zone in. What was once a major accomplishment requiring a good bit of work has now been reduced to a click.

I guess in some aspects I can understand removing it. It is a pretty cool zone and I’m sure more people would run it if it didn’t take so much work to get into. I’ve gone along on a Deathtoll raid in the past simply because the raidforce going in didn’t have access and I did. They wanted the AA and the trophy that you now get from killing Tarinax. It’s sad to see the accomplishment of gaining access to Deathtoll reduced to a click but in the grand scheme of things, I guess with the level cap now being 90, it’s not really much of an accomplishment anymore.

So with GU 58, Deathtoll will be open to anyone who wishes to stroll on in. And I’ll be reduced to talking about how back in my day, we I had to walk to school, in the snow, with no shoes, uphill, BOTH WAYS! Tell that to the kids of today, and they won’t believe you.

    • Summoning a mount will now use the effects from the Equipped slot but apply the appearance from the Appearance slot.

This just in from SmokeJumper on the official forums:

We’ve solved some technical issues recently and we can now offer character slots for sale. (Something previously unavailable.)

So as of October 5th (Tuesday), character slots will be available for purchase in the marketplace.

Here’s a couple quick facts to answer obvious questions:

  1. Slots are permanent. You pay for them once and they stay on your account forever.
  2. You can purchase any number of character slots. There is no limit. You want 20, 30 or even a bajillion character slots? Go for it.

Regarding Station Access subscriptions:

  1. Character slots sold are *in addition to* any slots you are getting by being an SA subscriber. (Example: If you had 12 slots available as an SC subscriber and you purchase two more slots in the marketplace, you’ll now have 14 slots available.)
  2. If you cancel your SA subscription, and then buy slots to replace the slots you were getting, your characters *will* still be present in those purchased slots (they won’t get deleted during the swapover).

Character slots will be available in the in-game marketplace for 1000 SC each.

This also applies to EQ2 Extended as well.
