New beginnings, what does that mean to me? Well it is a time in your life where you can respect what had happened in the past as that is what makes you who you are today. But not allow yourself to not to focus on the bad instead focus on what is good. I decided after the many years as a Qeynosian that it was time for a change for the better. Now that Erollsi had touched my life once again I decided that it is no other better place to go than to New Halas.

Months of planning, packing, saving, and sorting through the years of memories and junk that lay around the house, I took my possessions and traveled to the new land. Before leaving Qeynos I had talked with the ambassador at the harbor and asked for the paperwork for my change of citizenship. I was thinking that it would be a lot of work for them to trust me and that I would not have been easily accepted. They had been lost and were being bombarded with new people when the first ship was planned to go.

After the long travel with a lot of others and my love Nikatell, we finally arrived upon the docks. The first thing I realized was it was cold, very, very cold. Just like how I remembered Halas was, cold and I was quickly surprised that the Coldain were there. After I adjusted taking in the new sights of home at the dock, and holding fast to my fire mount, and my love. We decided it was time to explore the city proper, and find a new home.

Following the constructed path up to the city proper all we could see was snow. and who would have thought spiders would survive in snow and ice, at least you can say some things never change. At the end of the road that opens to the main city I saw what we had come here for, Erollisi, she was in all of her blessed glory. I have not seen anything so beautiful in the years that I have been here upon Norrath. Immediately drawn to her, I nearly ran to her statue not caring that there were others watching I bowed my head in a prayer, thanking her for the gifts she had given us. Anyone that says that Erollisi is dead is wrong, she may not be physically  here upon Norrath but as long as there are lovers, family and friends you will always have Erollisi’s blessings.

After my respects were paid we went in search to familiarize myself with our new home town, where the trainers are, and where the crafting area is. The little things that you need in your life that it would be just easier to know where they are, and it is an excuse to get lost in your new home city. After getting los familiarizing my self with my city we found the ambassador who took our papers and warmly welcomed me to New Halas. I was in shock, I didn’t think that he would welcome us just like that. No questions as to why we are here, no kill 20 rats or in this case spiders. Just welcome to New Halas.

Thanking him with the warmth of my heart, what little warmth I could muster in this freezing cold, I had asked which way to the housing. He gave me directions pointing to another tunnel, I trusted him as I had no other directions to follow, I went in search of housing. Each sight  I passed was more and more breath taking. Spending a moment to take it all in. Thinking over and over that this is our new home, our new beginning.

Asking a few people here and there as to where we were supposed to be, together we found the housing district. We  looked at all of the options, the 1 bedroom, the 3 bedroom and even the 5 bedroom place. We toured each house and just couldn’t get enough of how the wood looked, the stone, the picture frame windows. We were touring the 5 room place and turned to the large picture frame window that looked over the water to see the one thing I love almost more than him and Erollisi, a Sunset. It took my breath away the beauty of it, I was sold.  After consulting with him we couldn’t justify anything smaller than the 5 bedroom place, so we bought it, only after the fact that we noticed that the address was “Manors of Erollisi”.

The long trip here and choosing the house now coming to a close for the night,  I am just grateful to be starting on the new beginning with someone I truly care about. The decorating will commence just as soon as we start a fire and get warm. To all the Norrathians who now call New Halas home, may your days be blessed with beautiful sights and the nights be kept warm with loved ones by the fire.

Those who were lucky enough to get the loot card “Legends 5 Bedroom Home” from the Ethernauts card set were excited to own a 5 room magical house which cost no coin or status.

These magical houses have two locations, one in the South Qeynos Mage Tower and the other can be found at the bottom part of the Academy of Arcane Science building in North Freeport.

BUT

Many who own this house feel left out when ever there are new housing to be bought. Many having to create a new alt in order to experience any new housing.

Since these magical houses were so very hard to get, few are willing to pack up and move for fear of losing them.

Well Fear No More!!

I have the Official SOE word that, once you own a magical house you will always be able to own one. These houses fall into a “Permission Right”, just like the Maj Dul houses were once you gain enough faction to buy one, you can move back in if you move to another house later on. You have earned the right to own a magical house any time you choose to move in.

This does not mean that you get a free house else where, the only free house you can lay clam to is a magical house. You will have to go and purchase any new place you move to.

So pack up and move magical house owners, go and experience new house joys!! Then when you grow weary of those walls around you, fee free to move back to a magical house, it will be waiting there for your return!

Sparkys!!
Everybody loves them!!

Now the wonderful guides have them to pass out.  I was able to catch one and shake them down for a few, and let me tell you those gnome ones are quick!

First there seems to be  6 collections, which are part of a category called Hold of Prexus.

The awards for each of these Doodads, is a piece of cloth armor which has a leather look to it.

Olihin has checked in with some fixes and improvements for PvP and especially Warfields which will become available next week. From the EQ2 Forums:

I have made the following changes that will reduce some of the issues we are having at this time during the Warfield events. The changes will not likely be affecting live until after the holiday weekend. I just want to make you aware of what is being changed based on your feedback and please do not hesitate to provide more information should I have missed it.

(PvP) Items

  • The Vintage Wares, Scion of War items have been updated to be used by both Good and Evil aligned clients.
  • The items shared by Battleground merchants and Open PvP merchants do not require a city alignment for use.
  • Players should now be able to use their Most Wanted Posters in combat once the reuse time has passed

(PvP) Quests

  • Players should now be able to complete the Learning the Path, PvP Tutorial Quest by speaking the Scion of War, Vintage Wares merchant
  • You may no longer complete more then one writ

(Population) PvP

  • You may now obtain PvP writs in Halas by speaking to the Writ Giver near the monk trainer in Halas.

(PvP) Warfields

  • Antonica and Commonlands have had their population count reduced and a new instance will spawn once the number is reached.
  • The new instance will also start the timer for a Warfield in that zone.
  • A new spell effect will now let you know if you will be rewarded for participation in the Warfields.
  • You gain the effect by reporting to one of the towers during the event.
  • The effect will cease being distributed 2 minutes prior the event timer ends.
  • Additional detriments have been added to the Tower Guardian defense shields that affect those under level 9.
  • Towers will now display correctly in each zone regardless of distance and setting.

I thank you all for your patience and understanding!

CNN reports that Gary Coleman, former child star (of “Diff’rent Strokes fame) died today, at the age of 42 – of a brain hemorrhage just a few days after being admitted in “Serious condition” to a Utah hospital.

It was hinted after Fan Faire that new Spell Effects and Animations were on the way, and at one point we were listing it for Sentinel’s Fate/Game Update 55. Timetravelling has chipped in with some more info, and actually one of these new animations is available in-game.

It is indeed being worked on. And no, no ETA yet. Can’t even go with our trademarked ’soon’ yet! =P

Currently, they are brand new spell effects. For almost every spell. For every class. And the effects get bigger and cooler as the tier of your spell rises (aka Master I Rift looks more epic than Apprentice I Rift).

And they look awesome =)

I even have an example of one of the new effects: Get a fury buddy to cast his new Ring of Fire!

No word on whether these spell effects have been future-proofed by putting them on the GPU (your graphics card). Having particle effects run on the CPU has resulted in most raiders and some groupers having to reduce or disable particles just to play the game.

Believe it or not, the hard work of bolting Shaders 3 onto the antiquated EQ2 engine is done.

What remains is polish and cleanup. With all the combinations of armor, weapons, and with as many zones as there are in EQ2, this final bug sweep must take place with the help of the player.

Players have been diligently posting screen shots and even videos demonstrating the numerous areas of the game including guild halls, armor sets, etc. where Shaders 3 stumbles — it’s too dark, it’s washed out, there are halos on objects, or the colors are just plain wrong.

Imago-Quem needs your help now to finish the last mile of the race so he can move onto upgrading other things in EQ2. Don’t give up or just accept that items and armor you worked hard to get won’t look right with Shaders 3 enabled, bug it, or post screenshots on the EQ2 Forums.

The one, and only, EQ2 Shader 3.0 developer here,

What I’m hearing from most of you is things are too dark, wrong colors, too shiny, blacked out, too slow, and crashing for some of you. These are exactly the things I am working on right now to make Shader 3 your preferred choice. The more of you I can make happy, the happier I am.

Right now I’m cleaning up the armor sets and environments that we missed in the months of testing (the game is HUGE). That means fixing the colors, the darkness, and the shininess on hundreds of objects and armor sets.

Based on all this feedback I’ll be sure to adjust the overall brightness of Shader 3 so you can see your game more clearly without adjusting the gamma and brightness (which in my opinion bleeds out the vibrancy I worked so hard to add).

I’m also working on a performance enhancement for Shader 3 that is looking nicely so far but it has to pass QA and run on Test for a bit before we are confident enough to ship it to Live.

For those of you who are getting crashes, please /bug your issue. We need to know your zone and location (/loc), hardware setup, game settings, character name and server so we can reproduce and fix these crashes. Right now I have ZERO crash bugs listed in my queue to fix, so send those in!

In addition to these updates I’ve submitted a fix for the driver forced AA feature using the r_aa_blit command. A fix is running through QA right now. Hopefully it passes and we can send it out to you Live shortly.

Please give Shader 3.0 a chance to mature just a little while longer. The game is massively huge and running it for months through our QA team and the Test servers just wasn’t enough to expose a few hundred corner cases out of hundreds of thousands of complex scenes full of differing weather conditions, armor sets, skins, visual settings, special effects, materials, and lighting effects throughout the game.

We are working hard to bring you a better experience and a continually improving game. Thank you all for your support.

So you’ve got a tradeable Lore item that you’d like to pass from one of your characters to another on the same account. How do you do it?

You could hand it to a friend, change characters, and have them hand it back to you. If you’re in a guild, you could put it in the guild bank, change characters, and hope its still there for you to pull it back out. Wouldn’t it be much easier if you could just put the item in your own shared bank? Well now you can!

In response to a player query about this, TimeTraveling responded:

Tis intended, and apologies for it getting missed on the release notes!

So it’s official! You can now put LORE items in your shared bank!

Out of all the “Lets get together and build this” world events that I have been able to be a part of ( missed out on the griffin towers, only) This new world event to bring druid rings to many of the land masses in Norrath has to be the best by far!

This one really promotes grouping, while still leaving the door open for solo people to have a good time too.
You can group up with one or two buddies or even up to a full group to run through the repeatable quests of finding rocks and killing drakes and get some bonus rewards, the more you have the better the rewards.

For a solo person you have to find smaller magilith rocks to collect, 6 or so in total. Drakes come at you 2 at a time and you need 9 of those. You get tokens when you turn in the quests.  Solo people also have a crafting quest using tier 2 harvest items (10-19), creating 6 items.

Now if you and a buddy or two grouped up, you can go after the massive rocks and everyone gets two of the needed quest rocks so a small group only have to harvest off of 3 massive magilith rocks to full fill that quest. On the drakes they come in 4’s, and a small chest will drop which has a extra flower token in it.

Now for the big haul, groups of 4 or more can harvest the mega magilith rocks, and here is the cool part: each person gets 3 rocks AND a free flower token!!  So harvest two mega magilith rocks and your done with that one. Oh but it gets better, when these 4 or more groups go after the drakes, it triggers of spawn of 4-5 drakes and a chest drops which gives everyone at least 4 more flower tokens!!

BAM! your done and time to ride back and do turn in’s and get some more.

Grouping up with 4 or more makes doing these world events fun and quick!! The bonus rewards for doing so make it a must for anyone who wants to collect tokens quickly.

I have also found that people are more willing to group up and start groups than ever before. Just show up and give out a shout saying your looking and I am sure you will get a few invites in no time. Or start your own group up, you will not have a hard time finding others.

Now on AB we have seen the druid rings going up faster than a prom dates skirt. The one in Nektulos Forest went up in a blink of an eye, we burned through the one which went into Zek, then Enchanted Lands, Feerrott, Sinking Sands, Loping Plains, SkyFire in Jarsath Wastes and  as I write this, the one in Stonebrunt Highlands is  being completed.

At each one the token merchant offers items we have seen before at world events; invisible armor etc. There are 13 new items, a  blessed sapling, blessed shrubbery, at least 4 mini druid rings, Jewels of Growth and Balance, Male and Female Topiaric Mannequin and Wayfarer’s Boots. There are different ring to be bought at each of the new rings.

  • a black granite druid ring  16 Floret of Growth  Nektulos Forest
  • a sandstone druid ring  16 Floret of Growth  Zek, the Orcish Wastes
  • a white granite druid ring  16 Floret of Growth  Enchanted Lands
  • a verdant druid ring  16 Floret of Growth  The Feerrott
  • No replica!  N/A  The Sinking Sands
  • a gray granite druid ring  16 Floret of Growth  Loping Plains
  • No replica!  N/A Jarsath Wastes
  • A dark verdant druid ring 16 Floret of Growth Stonebrunt Highlands

Black Druid Ring

Black Druid Ring

Topiaric Mannequin

Topiaric Mannequin

Blessed Shrubbery

Blessed Shrubbery

The rings and the shrub will cost you 16 of the  Floret of Growth’s, while the a blessed sapling will cost you 50 of the Florets. Jewels are 7 each, Mannequin 20 and the boots are 27. So if you want to buy at least 1 of each of the new items you will need at least 227 Floret of Growths.

If you have missed any of the past rings, do not fear!
You can either join in at the current druid ring going up or wait till they are all up and go back to any you choose to do the quests and earn tokens at your leisure.
From what I understand, once all the rings are up, the druid npc’s who give out the quests will return to the rings allowing everyone who might have missed out a chance to do the quests and earn tokens, at least until the next game update comes along.

GENERAL

  • Fixed some proc effects that were not working on spell hits.
  • Fixed a crash issue related to chest looting.
