We love our fantasy here at ZAM.com. Stepping into a world that’s not our own is the true purpose of MMOs, isn’t it? So it should come as no surprise to learn that our ever entertaining host of The BFF Report, Mike B. aka Fony, had a hankering to descend into the depths of Hell and explore the fantastical world located within the recently released, action game, Dante’s Inferno.

A word of warning… this video (and the corresponding video game) are not for the faint of heart, and the review features censored (but still graphic) images of blood, gore, and adult situations. But if you want to check out the latest in fantasy action gaming, make sure you check out Episode 19 of The BFF Report.

My question I pose to you is do you hug a tree or slay it? I am all for being of the tree hugging persuasion, considering being around Feir’dal’s and all, but since when do these trees start to “hug” back? I have seen many trees in my lifetime and really I have never completely understood why these trees try to show us affection. Or is it really affection? Maybe instead they feel disdain for our very existence and want to show us how they feel.

There are many trees in Norrath but which of them do you trust? The trees in Kelethin holding up the city seem nice enough I mean they don’t move. But there are some rogues out there in the Greater Faydark. How about the ones in Nektulos forest? They can really give you a what for if you are still a bit on the little side. The ones in Eye of Daratin, oh my run in with them, they hurt like a tinkered explosion of massive proportion, only this time it was definitely lights out.

I bring up this point as I have noticed that with my recent run in with them they have been a bit more aggressive, or is that loving. It could be that I am not of the season for them or maybe they just like to pick on someone physically smaller than they are. Either way, I love trees just like the last gnome, but when they tried to “hug”… it hurt… a lot. I don’t just mean a little bruise on your shoulder, sliver in your finger, or the “I’m not dead yet” type of hurt. No, it is the deep tissue bruising, dislocating your shoulder, knocking you on your behind kind of hurt. Have you ever been beat up by a tree many times over until you are knocked unconscious not once but multiple times over just because you were determined to prove your point? Yeah that was me. It makes me wonder what we did to make them mad or are they just excited to see us.

Whatever the reason the question still remains, do we hug the tree and cause it no harm or do you tell them to pick on someone their own size? I suppose it all depends on where in Norrath you are. But if that tree decides that it wants to come after me with branches open wide for either a “hug” or to show me how they really feel I am going to stand there with my staff at hand ready to strike. Not because I don’t trust that the tree really wants to show me affection but yet instead I fear that it wants to pick on someone smaller than they.

Be careful out there Norrathians, you just don’t know what those crazy trees will do to you. I suppose if the tree is standing there feel free to come give it a hug to show your appreciation for what they provide to you.  Until then if that tree comes right at me I plan on proving the point, you can’t just pick on someone smaller than you just because you can. We may be small but boy do we pack quite a punch.

The Internet is always changing and each day sites hit the World Wide Web with new features, designs, and options for users. Although we had a fondness for our previous look, the ZAM staff knew that we could do things better… make our site bigger, better, faster, and stronger. The results are in front of you.

In addition to the new, non-drab colors and enhanced feature story box, we made a number of improvements that should help you navigate around our entire network. Whether you want to take a trip around the content features on ZAM.com or check out the headlines before heading to Wowhead or MMOUI, everything is accessible by an easy mouse click.

There are lots of subtle changes throughout the site, but below you’ll find a few things that are new to ZAM.com and might be of interest to you, our users. Once you’ve read through the changes and had some time to check out the site, we’d like to hear your constructive feedback on what you like or don’t like about the new look, and you can do this by simply logging in and leaving a comment below this article.

Menu and Submenu System

To help facilitate our readers and their navigation preferences, we’ve built a two bar menu system that allows users to click through to specific pages that they’re looking for without a major hassle or having to deal with obnoxious dropdowns.

With a simple click on a top menu category, you’ll be given a list of specific pages within that section. Click again, and you’ll be taken to the section’s overall page where you can do a more general browse for whatever you’re looking for.

Condensed News Feed

News is important, especially that of the breaking kind. However, in our previous iteration the news section dominated our layout, forcing people to scroll through walls of text to find what they were looking for. Now we present a condensed blurb of news posts for you to quickly see the news of the day at a glance.

On top of that, we’ve added game specific tabs on what we consider the hottest games on or coming to market, so you can easily find out what’s the newest piece of content for Star Wars: The Old Republic or Final Fantasy XIV.

Video Page

Unlike our old system, we’ve now made it easy to search through all of our ZAM hosted videos and our most recent episodes of The BFF Report. Here you can find content from our major event trips, including E3, CES, and GDC, along with the latest trailers and videos from upcoming and released MMOs. We’re constantly updating this page, so if you see a video from one of your favorite games and would like to see it uploaded, make sure you let us know!

There you have it folks! ZAM.com is fresh and new, but we’re always looking to make more improvements. If you have any questions, comments, or feedback, please let us know by leaving a response below!

The Brewday event brings new fun

The Brewday event is up on test servers which means it will soon be hitting the live servers for all players to enjoy.

BATTLEGROUNDS

GENERAL

  • Guard levels in Freeport have been slightly adjusted: many level 95 guards remain, but they are no longer blocking access to quest updates for good-aligned players of high level.
  • Obelisk of Lost Souls: Characters who are high enough level to gray-out the access quests now automatically gain the power to open the doors.
  • Sata, the Quel’ule faction merchant, now also sells scholar type fuel (candles, coal, and incense).

ITEMS

  • Elemental Barrier (a unique proc on some PvP gear) has been improved as a proc and now stacks with itself
  • The PvP proc Mutilation has been changed. Instead of reducing the effectiveness of your target’s heals (thus making it only effective vs healers), it now reduces the effectiveness of all heals on your current target (making it effective vs anyone who is being healed)
  • Those that completed the quest “The Fleshbound Tome Speaks Again” can now buy the “Flesh Bound Tome” from the city sages in Freeport and Qeynos.
  • Those that completed the quest “A Crusade to Faydwer” can now buy “The Missing Pages of the Sword Heist Journal – Rebound” from the city sages in Freeport and Qeynos.
  • Those that completed the quest “Hadden's Earring” can now buy “Hrath's Journal” from the city sages in Freeport and Qeynos.
  • Sentinel’s Fate (and scaled-to-90 TSO dungeons) heroic legendary gear should all have resists now.
  • Roger Goldie’s Straw Hat should no longer have the “Hooluk in a Hat” effect on it.

QUESTS

  • Players that decline or delete the quest “Geobot” after completing “Conflict Among the Kobolds” can now regain it by speaking with Watchman Plarg in Steamfont.
  • Players are no longer being misdirected to search within “The Hole: Outer Vault” for Dartain's Fortress, while on the quest “The Footsteps of Dartain: Emergence.”
  • Players on the quest “The Footsteps of Dartain: Experimentation” only need to speak with the spirit once in order to advance the quest.
  • “Infiltrating the Sanctum: Emissary Kvikz” now recognizes when the player defeats “Sslan'yiz the Animator”.
  • Alim Dabir in Sundered Frontier now responds for the quest ”Further Research Required” even if you have previously deleted it after completing other quests.
  • “Justice for Jojo” now updates more reliably at the final stage, and correctly removes quest items from inventory when they are no longer needed.

TRADESKILLS

  • Incorrect recipe costs on a number of crafted Mark of Manaar equipment items have been corrected.

NEKTULOS

  • The “guardian mist grinnin” have a higher chance of carrying the kneespikes required for the quest “Ashland Kneespikes.”

VASTY DEEP

  • Xilaxis the Explorer’s item tables have been corrected and he should always drop loot on both normal and challenge-mode.

Catch the epic finale of the popular comic

Jeriah has been a favorite EQ2 web comic of mine for years and while we have watched Jeriah adventure through Norrath meeting new people and facing foes for a long while, it has come time to say goodb

Today’s downtime gave us a couple of small fixes:

GENERAL

  • Ole’ Man Silvers should be willing to talk to you now.
  • Players who have lost or dropped their Huge Tiger Claws for the quest “Justice for Jojo” can loot another pair.

TRADESKILLS

  • The rare 10 quicksilver +1 rare harvest from gem nodes in Odus is now awarding kaborite instead of ulteran diamond as the rare.
